The Shenandoah Association consists of 26 established churches and 1 church-in-formation. The roots of these churches vary from the Congregationalist New England Pilgrims and Puritans of the 18th century, the Christian Churches in the South, and the 19th century German Reformed and Evangelical Churches in the mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. The Shenandoah Association has a geographical base that mostly coincides with the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; however, there are a few churches in the Association that are located in or east of the Blue Ridge. The Shenandoah Association is one of five Associations of the Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ.
While the churches of the Shenandoah Association vary in history and/or backgrounds, they get along as part of the larger church. And though there are times when there is disagreement, the churches seem to agree to disagree. The people of the Shenandoah Association are diverse.
(The UNITED Church of Christ is not affiliated in any way with the Church of Christ, a completely different Christian denomination.)
